Beauty Bar

By Ryan, September 12, 2009 2:09 am

Just got back from a fun Friday night at the Beauty Bar! Jeff invited me to a show his work was sponsoring and I’m glad I went. Listening to live music, chillin’ with Jeff, Robert and Midori, drinkin’ the Beauty Bar’s own brew – this was a good Friday night.

Wheelies & Legalities

By Ryan, March 17, 2009 4:58 am

I had a really good weekend this past week.  Friday was disk golf with Busby, Sage and B where Sage and I tied for first place in a four-horse race.  Saturday was a pretty slow knife sharpening day but was followed by B’s going away party!  I had a lot of fun meeting some new folk and seeing some people I hadn’t seen in a while (Alex, Faith, Travis, and even Whiskey Johson!)  The highlight of the event, for me, was tempting Busby to arm wrestle B for bragging rights.  It was a close match but Busby came away with the win (must be his whole-grain diet.)  I went out surfing at Swamis on Sunday morning with my newly repaired 9’6″ and had a really fun time.  Then it was off to work at Seaside Market (which turned out to be a better day than Saturday) and then back out in the water, this time at Pipes.  Not only was the surf better in the afternoon, I found an uncrowded peak so I got all the waves I wanted.  Good times.  It’s been a long, long while since I’ve had two surf sessions in one day so I felt really good (and tired) that night.

Today was a pretty relaxing day.  I had a mobile knife sharpening gig in the morning and as I was driving to the location this motorcyclist kept poppin’ wheelies on the freeways.  The whole time all I could think about is what I would tell the cops if I accidentally ran over him after he fell off his bike.  It clearly wouldn’t be my fault but I don’t know the legality of accidentally running over a foolish man.  The guy would look behind him (presumably to check for cop cars), get in a standing position (he had special pegs for this), pump his bike ~3 times and then do his thing.  As I drove past him he looked at me and we made eye contact which always seems weird to me while driving on the freeway.  I guess no harm no foul.  After the mobile, the rest of my day consisted of drinking a few beers and working on True Sharp.  I’m going to see if I can set up a mail-in sharpening service for drill-bits and clipper blades.  We’ll see…

I suppose that’s all for me tonight.  I have work in about 6.5 hours.  Le sigh.

P.S. This comic is hilarious:  http://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=1447#comic

And on the 8th day he…

I finished another photo album but can’t seem to log into the ol’ bro server tonight…I’ll have to check with Patrick or Sameer to see if they’ve played some sort of April-Fools-in-May joke on me and changed the password.

This past Monday, Memorial Day, was the best day off I can remember. I typically only get one day off a week so my Sundays are usually dotted with chores and other responsibilities. Monday was great because I did whatever I wanted without worrying about deadlines or assignments or anything. Hell, I think I stayed in my comfy-PJs till 2 in the afternoon! : ))) I think I need more 3-day weekends.

After Monday I feel rejuvenated. I’ve been completing all the little chores that have been piling up over the weeks and I’m starting to feel like I’m catching up with my school & work load. My post-graduation strat is falling into place and things are generally getting easier…for now…until finals roll around. 0.o

My senior project is shaping up to be a decent one and my internship is affording me a lot of time to work on it. Getting paid to do school work is the way to go, man. I’m applying to a number of jobs for the city and I’m planning on applying to some other gov’t jobs as well. Gotta get my bills paid and put some money in the bank (or into my Capstone stocks! : D)

Goodnight everybody everybody.

New Pictures!

By Ryan, May 24, 2008 4:03 am

Friday nights seem like the best nights for getting LivingComfortEagle (LCE) stuff done. I have to go to work every Saturday morning so on Fridays it seems best for me to just stay home for the evening, have a couple o’ brews and do a bunch of photo editing and uploading for the site. Here are a few new albums I uploaded tonight:

American Craft Beer Week Party

Quiamaca Hike

Holiday Party (2007)

I have a bunch more pictures that I hope to get up in the next week so keep checking back for any new developments.

Also, over the past few days I’ve given Stroke City‘s blog a face lift and linked to some new (non-comic) content so be sure to check that out as well! I’ve been reading a bunch of the old blogs and I’m just upset that I can’t integrate them into the new blog. So it goes. : (

Goodnight!

Clean Shaven Again

By Ryan, April 26, 2008 3:22 am

I had my first professional shave today at a really old-school barber shop down in P.B.  The whole experience was really nice – the hot towels, the close shave, the clean feeling post aftershave – definitely something I would again when another beard needs shavin’ off.

I took a nap today that lasted for faaaar too long and now I’m wide-awake at 1am.  This may be common hat for some of you but I have to wake up for work in seven hours.  Frown.  Since Freshman/Sophomore year of college, I’ve managed to put an end to the lion’s share of sleep-deprived nights.  I think perhaps I am now better at managing my time since it definitely feels like I have more on my plate these days with school and work.  I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to do post-graduation and I have a few options.  My original plan was to chillax’ for 6 months to a year before I pursued a “real” job but everybody is advising me to get a full-time job ASAP.  The reasoning it sound so that’s probably what I’ll try to do…it’s just – guh – I really would like a little time to relax and collect myself before entering the work-force in full-force.  So it goes.

My senior project seems like it’s well underway in becoming a success!  The data I’ve collected so far seems pretty darn neat and my faculty mentor seemed really excited today during our meeting.  Now I just have to finish entering all the data and start doing fancy stuff with it!  : ))

I’ve been crafting a bunch today and it seems like I either get crushed or I win with ease.  I think the early hours bring out both extremes en masse.  Maybe I’ll make a new name to try out a different race.  :D

Goodnight!
